Jole Family History--in appreciation to Ola Helge Fløene
Ola Helge Fløene is the Norwegian man behind this astounding feat. His ancestry comes from the grandparents of Anders Olson, and his branch of the family stayed in Norway. How did he find us? It's a miracle of modern computer technology.
From his home in Brøtne, Norway, a neighboring farm to Jordet farm, Ola helped compile information from parish records and spent a lot of time gathering information and creating charts. In his research, he discovered the names of people who had left the region for a new life in the United States, and found that there was a branch of his family that had done so. Ola also reports that prior to 1994, this information was scattered and not systematically compiled, and even if we had gone to Norway to search, it would have been nearly impossible to get the complete picture.
He discovered that this family had moved to Wisconsin, and through various sources on the internet, traced a couple of generations down from Anders Olson. He found this obituary at the MANITOWOC COUNTY, WISCONSIN GENEALOGY website:
GUSTAVE JOLE

Funeral services for Gustave JOLE, 96, a former barber in Scandinavia
(Wisconsin), will be held Saturday at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church, Rev.
Arthur J. Ressnes officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mr. JOLE died Tuesday in a Fond du Lac hospital. He had been living in a
Fond du Lac nursing home.
He was born August 7, 1878, in Manitowoc County, the son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew JOLE. He married Winifred HANSEN on Dec 31, 1901 in
Waupaca. His wife celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month. He
lived for a time in Minnesota and South Dakota, but he spent most of his
life in the Scandinavia area and was a barber for many years.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, one brother, Alvin, Bremerton,
Washington; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Eight
brothers and sisters and one daughter preceded him in death.
[bold added for emphasis]
Because of this noting of Alvin Jole in Bremerton, Ola then did an internet search on Joles in Washington, and Douglas Jole's name, address and phone number appeared on his computer.
He made a phone call, on the evening of the Fourth of July, and established that this was, indeed, the branch of the family he was looking for.
Note 1: Gustave Edward was the eldest son of Anders Olson
(or Andrew Jole) by his second wife Ingeborg.
